Survival Horror Videogames
1. Terrifying Deep Space Survival Horror
If Alien Isolation was just too much survival horror for you to take on alone, you should give Alien Fireteam Elite a go. This multiplayer survival horror videogame allows you to take on the creatures with help from friends so you can all squeal together.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a cooperative third-person survival game set in the iconic Alien Universe. Battle through hordes of different types of Xenomorphs, customize your character and gear and level up as you try to contain this ever-growing threat.
2. Epic Soulslike Survival Horror
So if Tim Burton and the creators of Bloodborne had a baby, it’d be Lies Of P. This new survival horror videogame is tough and not for those who easily rage quit. I spent over an hour trying to beat the first boss before I finally just threw my hands up and walked away. But I can say that the graphics are beautiful and the story is very interesting.
Lies of P is a thrilling soulslike that takes the story of Pinocchio, turns it on its head, and sets it against the darkly elegant backdrop of the Belle Epoque era.
3. Good Third Person Survival Horror
Daymare 1994 is one of those zombie mutant kinda survival horror games that I normally skip over. But after watching some others play it, I’m gonna have to give it a go. The monsters in this survival horror look awesome and a little bit different than others floating around.
Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is a third-person story-driven survival horror game prequel to the critically acclaimed Daymare: 1998. Step into the shoes of agent Dalila Reyes, a former government spy now in the service of the H.A.D.E.S. unit and prepare to face the true horror.
4. Mysterious Indie Survival Horror
Silver Chains may be a few years old, but don’t let that stop you from giving this one a go. The story is great, the atmosphere will keep you on your toes the entire time, and the jumpscares are great. I love to see and play a great indie survival horror.
Silver Chains is a first-person horror game with a strong emphasis on story and exploration. Search for clues within an old abandoned manor to unravel the truth about the terrible events that have happened.
5. Graphic Survival Horror
So you want to know my very first thought when I played the first round of The Outlast Trials? We all need therapy- and more medication. Then I remembered that these games are based on real stories of MK Ultra and I walked my train of thinking back. If you enjoy your survival horror to be bloody, and gory, and push your limits in anxiety and stress management, The Outlast Trials will give you all you can handle and more.
Red Barrels invites you to experience mind-numbing terror, this time with friends. Whether you go through the trials alone or in teams, if you survive long enough and complete the therapy, Murkoff will happily let you leave… but will you be the same?
6. Scary Space Survival Horror
So I never played any of the original Dead Space games, I was never a huge action horror survival fan. But with that being said, the remake and release of Dead Space were epic. The monsters and jumpscares are top-notch, as well as the puzzles and story. If you haven’t given this one a go, you really should.
The sci-fi survival-horror classic returns, completely rebuilt to offer an even more immersive experience — including visual, audio, and gameplay improvements — while staying faithful to the original game’s thrilling vision.
7. Multiplayer Survival Horror
If you ever want to see sorta real life how people react to life and death, go jump into the Texas Chain Saw Massacre game and watch the random strangers you drop in with go. I’ve seen it all at this point. This takes survival horror to an entirely new level, especially when you play with strangers.
Take on the role of one of the notorious Slaughter family, or their victims, in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a third-person asymmetrical horror experience based on the groundbreaking and iconic 1974 horror film. Experience the mad and macabre for yourself in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
8. Puzzling Survival Horror
If you love first-person shooter survival horror, you have to play Atomic Heart. The monsters, robots, plot, and graphics are astounding. As of writing this, the monsters in this game are probably my favorite of the year thus far.
In a mad and sublime utopian world, take part in explosive encounters. Adapt your fighting style to each opponent, use your environment, and upgrade your equipment to fulfill your mission. If you want to reach the truth, you’ll have to pay in blood.
9. Atmospheric Survival Horror
Devour is a must-play for fans of co-op survival horror. I believe you can play it solo as well if you’d like to die of a heart attack. The fact that you have to keep going back again and again to find specific items to finish off the demon only amps up the horror.
DEVOUR is a co-op horror survival game for 1-4 players. Stop possessed cultists before they drag you to hell. Run. Scream. Hide. Just don’t get caught.
10. Puzzling Survival Horror
Ok, Fobia is great right up until the end. It’s not a bad survival horror game, it just kinda fades into a been there done that storyline. But by all means, up until that, it’s a pretty great game. Who doesn’t wanna explore a hotel that may or may not be a level of hell?
Explore a decadent hotel across different timelines and uncover the dark history of a fanatical cult and your role in their plans.
11. Retro Survival Horror Videogame
Do not let the simple look of It Steals fool you, it’s terrifying. It’s a 2D survival horror that was surprisingly creepy, and way more complex a story than I ever expected. With that being said, you should certainly give this a chance.
AROUND EVERY CORNER. Face against stealthy antagonists that will take advantage of your expectations.
12. Scariest Survival Horror
The Town Of Light grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until the end. We get to re-live the horrors we survived as a young woman in the waking nightmare that was mental asylum healthcare. This is not just a survival horror, it will make you sad, angry, terrified, and much more.
On 12 March 1938, Renée, 16, was ripped out of her world, her only fault was that of not knowing her place in the world.
13. Amazing War Survival Horror
So when I first saw the trailers for Ad Infinitum, I knew it looked amazing, but figured it wasn’t my style given the heavy military story. And then I played it, and then I played it again, and finally watched my favorite YouTubers play it. This is a top-notch survival horror game that every fan of the genre should play.
When reality is a nightmare, nightmares become real. In this psychological horror game, you fight the terrifying creatures invading your mind. Can you save your sanity?
14. Creepy Survival Horror
Would you save them? That is the question we have to find as we make our way through this survival horror set in an old orphanage. Whitehaven is another horror game that runs you through a complex set of emotions and pushes you to question just how far would you go to save those weaker than you.
Uncover the mysteries of Whitehaven Orphanage in this first-person psychological horror game. Explore the place, collect clues, and put the pieces together to find out what happened years ago as you delve deep into your mind.
15. Cryptic Survival Horror
So if you love a Lovecraftian survival horror game, you must give Call Of Cthulhu a try. Take on the strange island, the cults, the monsters, and all the other goodies you get to battle in this one.
1924. Private Investigator Pierce is sent to look into the tragic death of the Hawkins family. Plunge into a world of creeping madness and cosmic horror. Cryptic clues, shadowy figures, and pure terror bar your way as you fight to retain your sanity and solve an otherworldly mystery.
16. Atmospheric Survival Horror
Perfect honesty, I played about two hours of Scorn, I still have no damn idea what the game was about. What I can tell you is that the graphics, sound design, and anxiety-inducing atmosphere were certainly all there. If you enjoy strange survival horror that doesn’t hold your hand or give you any direction whatsoever, Scorn is for you.
Scorn is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry.
17. Hellish Survival Horror
I’ll be honest and admit that my original run of Hellseed was a tad bit glitchy, but that was also shortly after release and I’m sure at this point almost a year later they’ve fixed the problem. All that aside Hellseed is a must-play if you enjoy survival horror with a haunting asylum aesthetic story to it.
Be careful and don’t panic, someone will try to catch you and take you to hell…
18. Dark Survival Horror
Fun fact, Visage will lure you in with peaceful, quiet, or calm spots only to scare the living hell out of you. Visage took survival horror to an entirely new place and stands at the top of most survival horror gamers’ top ten lists.
Visage is a first-person psychological horror game. Explore a mysterious ever-changing house in a slow-paced, atmospheric world that combines both uncannily comforting and horrifyingly realistic environments, and enjoy a genuinely terrifying experience.
19. Haunting Survival Horror
As of today, I haven’t seen one single person play Paranormal VHS without having at least a minor panic attack. Taking ghost hunting to an entirely new level, this new survival horror video game isn’t without its ups and downs, it is a new release. But overall everything I’ve seen and played thus far is a great time.
Paranormal VHS is a horror game that features a VHS tape-inspired aesthetic. The game’s story revolves around a popular vlogger who spends a night in haunted locations in search of paranormal activity. Brace for intense jump scares.
20. Classic Survival Horror
Would you like to know what it is like to be trapped inside a psychotic break? The Evil Within gives you just that and much more. While it may be another oldie, it’s still a goodie that I’ve gone back and played a few times. It’s a nice step into the more action-based survival horror genre without going full-blown Resident Evil or Silent Hill.
Developed by Shinji Mikami — creator of the seminal Resident Evil series — and the talented team at Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within embodies the meaning of pure survival horror. Highly-crafted environments, horrifying anxiety, and an intricate story are combined to create an immersive world that will bring you to the height of tension. With limited resources at your disposal, you’ll fight for survival and experience profound fear in this perfect blend of horror and action.
21. Fan Favorite Survival Horror
Hands down, Infliction is still a top survival horror game even after all these years. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat the whole ride, and the atmosphere amps the anxiety to a ten. Horror veterans and newbies alike need to give Infliction a go.
Wander through an interactive nightmare set within the confines of a once-happy household. Piece together the mystery behind a harrowing series of events while struggling to survive encounters with an entity that relentlessly stands in the way of finding absolution.
22. Must Play Survival Horror
So good news, bad news with Alice Madness Returns. The good news is that even though it’s a dinosaur in the survival horror video game age, it’s still an amazing play. The plot and story are top notch and it’s probably my favorite game I’ve played in 2023. Bad news, it can be tricky to get your hands on if you don’t have streaming options.

Alice: Madness Returns is a third-person, single-player, action-adventure platformer. Visit the grim reality of Victorian London and travel to the beautiful yet ghastly Wonderland to uncover the root of Alice’s madness.
23. Rage Inducing Survival Horror
So do you want to play a dark survival horror game that will have you jumping out of your seat one second only to rage-throw your controller across the room the next? Well, Bloodborne is just what you’ve been looking for. I love the art style of Bloodborne, and the story is pretty cool too, but on my lord I’ve rage quit this game so many times it’s not funny.
